Review Film The Big Sick - Premis Sederhana, Hangat dan Menghibur

The Big Sick, sebuah film komedi romantis yang menceritakan kehidupan antara Kumail Nanjiani dan Emily Gordon yang berbeda budaya, agama dan ras, dengan banyaknya latar belakang perbedaan yang ada diantaranya, berdua mencoba mencari jalan keluar dengan cara-cara yang tidak melulu dihiasi mellow drama, tetapi juga humor-humor tipis yang mampu membawa kita ke dalam kisah mereka berdua.

Kumail pemuda keturunan Pakistan yang seorang standup komedian memiliki kehidupan biasa layaknya keturunan Pakistan pada umumnya, bekerja sebagai driver taksi, dan menanti calon istri hasil perjodohan dari orang tuanya yang masih menganut erat budaya tradisional mereka.

Emily adalah wanita Amerika dari keluarga biasa yang pada suatu malam datang ke show Kumail dan terjadi interaksi panggung yang mengawali kisah mereka berdua.

Konflik-konflik yang muncul dalam film ini manusiawi dan tidak ada yang berlebihan. Bagi orang Asia muslim mungkin pernah merasakan apa yang Kumail alami, seperti Perbedaan pelayanan publik, kenakalan-kenakalan kecil anak muda, stereotype orang barat ke orang muslim berjenggot.

Ketidakmampuan Kumail dan Emily dalam menyelesaikan masalah perbedaan latar belakang mereka akhirnya mengharuskan konflik merambat kedalam keluarga masing-masing. Ketika semua terasa semakin mengerucut dan sepertinya menghadapi jalan buntu, takdir mengubah peta peperangan dan mulai memberikan percikan-percikan cahaya yang menjadi penerang jalan mereka berdua.

Dari segi premis cerita, kisah seperti ini sudah sangat familiar di dalam kisah persinetronan tanah air, yang membedakan adalah eksekusi dan dialog yang ada di dalamnya. Film ini kaya akan detail, joke-joke ringan dan akting solid dari setiap pemeran.

Overall, The Big Sick adalah film ringan yang dewasa, selama menonton kita akan merasa nyaman dan dengan porsi komedinya yang sebenarnya bertebaran di sepanjang film tapi takarannya pas, tidak pernah sampai berlebihan yang akan membuat kita lupa dengan inti ceritanya. Heartwarming, manis, lucu, manusiawi..

Oh iya, film ini berdasarkan kisah nyata si Kumail Nanjiani ya guys..

Ini dia ajang penganugerahan insan perfilman dan televisi terbesar di dunia setelah Academy Award atau biasa kita sebut Oscar. Ya, Golden Globe tahun ini kembali lagi dengan edisi ke-73 nya.
